Café Europa | From Accession to Cohesion: 40 Years of European Municipalism

Cafè Europa online from Brussels

Next Friday, September 26, at 9:00 AM, the Catalunya Europa Foundation will host a new Café Europa online session, broadcast live from the Barcelona Provincial Council office in Brussels.

Under the title “From Accession to Cohesion: 40 Years of European Municipalism”, the session aims to highlight the fundamental role of municipalities in building Europe and to reflect on the future challenges of local governance in a context defined by citizen proximity and the need for joint responses to major global challenges.

The event will feature Blanca Soler Tobella, head of the Barcelona Provincial Council Office in Brussels, who will share her insights on the trajectory of European municipalism and the opportunities that this stage of democratic maturityoffers. Gianluca Spinaci, advisor on the Green Deal at the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and coordinator of the EU Annual Report on the State of Regions and Cities, will also participate. With over thirty years of experience at local, regional, national, and European levels, he has played a key role in European initiatives on multilevel governance and the environment, such as the Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy and the CoR’s participation in United Nations climate change conferences.
